Klein Sun Gallery is proud to present "No One Gets Out Alive," a solo exhibition spotlighting the recent works of Chinese contemporary artist, Luo Qing.
In stark contrast to his earlier, more realistic work, Qing has shifted to surrealism. In his newly created oils on canvas, he illustrates an emotional relationship, one that exists internally between man and his external environments. Through cold and desolate depictions, he voices his feelings of distrust and misgivings concerning the world in which he lives and attempts to resist.
Throughout the work, the viewer is able to understand the deeper psychology of the artist. By employing a coarse and unrefined style, Qing distinctly communicates his contention for frameworks and guidelines. In addition to the way in which he paints, the subject matters also convey his innermost thought processes. With his placement of figures crouching in spaces or hiding among the woods, he demonstrates his own escaping and resistance of the realities of life whether it is societal frameworks, institutions of commerce, or politics which he so vehemently defies.
Although the central theme within these paintings is despair, he continues to work artistically to find his way to hope in this world. And with his personal belief that an individual is generally unable to resist in reality, he feels he is able to fully do so on canvas throughout his artwork.
Luo Qing was born in Nanching, in the Jianxi Province of China. He has participated in many solo and group exhibitions in countries including Singapore, Indonesia, Germany, Switzerland, the United States and his home country, China. In addition to exhibiting at the National Art Museum of China, he has also received two prizes from the Central Academy of Fine Arts and International Art Palace, respectively. Qing currently lives and works in Beijing.
